02 · Whale bait

Earn the Fish Bucket

    Use the regular Scientific Lure

    Catch fish native to the Volcano area. The optional boss-tier lure belongs to a separate encounter and is not the five-fish story requirement.

    Deliver five local catches

    Give the Scientist five qualifying Volcano fish until the collection objective is complete.

    Receive the Fish Bucket

    The Scientist rewards the completed request with the bait used for the regular Bowhead Whale.

    Equip ranged damage, carry substantial healing and ammunition, and leave room for the Whale body.

03 · First encounter

Defeat and keep the regular Bowhead Whale

Equip the Fish Bucket as bait and summon the regular Whale. Keep moving when it charges or launches into a body slam, then fire during the recovery after it lands. When it dies, store the entire body in your inventory.

Move before the landing

Watch the Whale's airborne path and leave the impact zone rather than trying to finish a reload underneath it.

Use recovery windows

Fire after a jump, crash, or missed charge while the large body is easier to track.

Heal between attacks

Create distance before eating. A rushed recovery beside the Whale can be erased by the next slam.

Keep the carcass

The regular Whale is the final boss trigger. Do not sell, cook, or abandon its body.

Throw the Whale body into the volcano

Carry the defeated Bowhead Whale up the wooden-plank route toward the crater. Equip or hold the body and throw it into the volcano. This experiment summons the Mutated Bowhead Whale in the final arena.

Prepare for a long, high-damage fight

Reliable ranged weapon

An upgraded Assault Rifle or another accurate, sustained ranged option is commonly recommended for the large moving target.

Large healing supply

Carry more recovery than earlier bosses. A few missed dodges can remove a substantial part of your health.

Ammo and reload discipline

Reload after the boss passes or lands, not while an airborne attack is already committed.

Stay in the arena

Do not try to escape far from the volcano by boat. Current guides report that pulling too far away can reset or despawn the fight.

How to beat Mutated Bowhead Whale

    Circle instead of retreating straight back

    Keep lateral movement around the arena so the Whale's large body and forward pressure do not pin you against terrain.

    Watch the ground and the sky

    Track both the Whale's landing position and incoming lava projectiles. Move out of marked or burning ground before committing to damage.

    Shoot after jumps and crashes

    Use the brief recovery after a landing, missed slam, or committed attack as your safest damage window.

    Shift away from lava pools

    Do not force the same circuit when the ground becomes unsafe. Establish a new loop around clear terrain.

    As the fight intensifies, shorten your exposed firing time and prioritize surviving consecutive stomps and lava attacks.

Why the final boss route fails

The Fish Bucket is missing

Complete the Scientist's five-fish request with qualifying Volcano catches and the regular Scientific Lure.

The final boss does not spawn

Keep the defeated regular Bowhead Whale body, carry it to the crater, and throw that exact carcass into the volcano.

Lava controls the arena

Move to a fresh circuit instead of repeatedly crossing the same burning path.

The boss disappears

Stay within the volcano encounter area. Do not use the boat to drag the fight far from its intended arena.

08 · Ending

Return the Whale Fin and start the RHIB

After the Mutated Bowhead Whale dies, collect the named Whale Fin and bring it back to the yellow-hazmat Scientist. The final hand-in rewards the RHIB or military-boat keys. Interact with the RHIB and start it to return toward the mainland and trigger the ending.
